Khao San Rd.

Khao San Road is located on the East side of Mae Nam Chao Phraya, the main river in Thailand. It’s just northeast of the Grand Palace. Most backpackers and tourists looking for lodging on the cheap stay in this area, so there are tons of dirty white people here. It’s equivalent to an extremely seedy Pier 39, one with more bars than family-oriented entertainment.

The food here is great, at least the food that I tried - tom yum kung (a spicy soup), red curry with chicken, and a bunch of street food (pad thai, BBQ, fresh fruit). Nong, one of my cousin Jo’s coworkers, wanted me to try everything and kept telling me: “Don’t get full, we still have a lot to eat!” Even though it is tourist-y, it was still extremely cheap: the three of us ate until we couldn’t walk for about 500 baht (>$20).

Red Curry with Chicken            Don't remember what this is called, but it was tasty

There are also many vendors selling the usual souvenirs, t-shirts, cheap luggage, cheap jewelry, cheap jeans, etc. I almost bought a Bruce Lee shirt that read, “BRUCE LEE IS MY HOMEBOY” for my homeboy Roger, who “thinks about Bruce Lee all the time,” but decided that maybe a present that had something to do with Thailand would be more appropriate.

I want me some FRUIT

We walked around for about 2 hours total and ate at somewhere like 6 locations.

(My cousin Jo took all of these pictures. The one right above me is at the enormously cool Monument to Democracy)
